Not at all 三つの意味と使い方

1. Not at all は、イギリス英語で “Your Welcome” と同じ意味です。

誰かに感謝された時に丁寧に返事をする時に使います。

例

A: Thanks for all your help.
B: Not at all.

A: 手伝ってくれてありあがとう。
B: どういたしまして。

２. 何かを丁寧に要求する Do you mind if ~ の質問をされたときの返事

例

A: Do you mind if I borrow your phone?
B: No, not at all. (No, I don’t mind at all).

A: 電話をお借りしてもかまいませんか？
B: はい、どうぞ。（いいえ、かまいませんよ）

この例文では、“Of course not.” と同じ意味で使われています。

以下のフレーズは、 “Do you mind if ~? の質問に not at all と答える時、代わりに使うことができます。

By no means, hardly, in no way, not in the least, not in the slightest, not the least bit, not the slightest bit

No や not が含まれていますが、これらはすべて相手がお願いしてきたことに「はい、どうぞ。かまいませんよ」と許可をしていることに注意してください。

3. Not at all は否定文を強調するための副詞として使われることがあります。

At all の説明

At all は、in any way（多少なりとも）という意味で、疑問文や否定文を強調するために使われます。肯定文には使われません。

She was not at all frightened.
彼女は少しも恐れていなかった。

They weren’t interested at all in what I had to say.
